212. Trump Corruptions of the 2020 Election

14 Sep

Trump often complains that US elections are rigged. But it appears that most of the rigging is done by Trump himself or his associates (including Russian Vladimer Putin). Here are examples of this rigging:

In speeches, Trump has made numerous statements designed to scare or discourage voters. It is the clear duty of a President to encourage voting as a part of the democratic process. He claims that mail-in (same as absentee) ballots are not safe, which could discourage some from voting. He claims that if he is not elected, the process was rigged and therefore invalid. Note that Trump himself, uses the same type of mail-in ballot that everyone else uses, and lies that his are special. He hopes that if rigging can be established, that he can stay in office. In the end, it might take the Army to get him out of the White House, but foolishly, he recently insulted the military leaders.

Trump has discouraged or ignored attempts to make US voting safer from foreign attack. Major government efforts to fight foreign influence have been ignored by Trump.

The Trump impeachment was about a corruption of funding for Ukraine, in its fight against Russia. Funds appropriated by Congress were delayed until the Ukrainian President would agree to declare an investigation of the Joe Bidens son.

Post Office: Trumps man, Postmaster General DeJoy, slowed down mail delivery, through the elimination of sorting machines, variations in scheduling, and changes in personnel. Slowdown could benefit the
President in several ways. In one way, fewer Democrat mail-in ballots would be counted. In another way, the election would never be completed and presumably Trump would stay in office longer. Postmaster DeJoy is now under investigation.

Census. He attempted to cut down the time for Census completion so that fewer poor people would be counted. This would allow more federal funds and other benefits to go to Republican areas. The Census is provided for in the US Constitution and its corruption distorts many government functions.

Attorney General Barr meddled in the prosecution and sentencing of Trump criminal staff. Trump wanted his staff to look less criminal, better for election. Commuting sentences and hinting at pardons was used to discourage testimony against him.

Attorney General Barr undermined the Mueller Report by misrepresenting its conclusions. Barr stated incorrectly that there was a complete exoneration of the President, making him look better for re-election. Note that the investigative work of Mueller was limited to certain safer subjects and that Trump never gave actual testimony.

Intelligence Agencies. He forced the modification of intelligence reports to obscure Russian election interference. A whistleblower claimed that reports needed to change to be consistent with his policies.

CDC and Medical experts: Trump minimized the dangers of the virus. See Woodward’s voice tapes in which he confessed to downplaying the virus to prevent “panic.” But obviously it is not about panic, which he promotes in many other ways.* Virus deaths reflect poorly on his time in office and would harm his election success. He has downplayed the virus from its onset to today. It is reported that Trump associates have pressured scientists to alter reports so as to support his election needs

In many instances, scientists have been pressured or fired in an effort to improve Trumps election chances. For example, a report on climate-change would be altered to indicate less danger.

The use of the White House as a GOP convention backdrop is a violation of tradition and may violate laws (like the Hatch Act). The White House is supposed to be used for government purposes and not for any political functions. There are numerous violations in this area.

*Examples of Trump promoting panic: He tried to scare suburban people with the possibility that low-grade housing would be built in their neighborhoods; which only he could prevent. He tried to scare people by emphasizing violence, riots, and destruction of property. He falsely claimed that Democrats were responsible for the riots and that only he could prevent riots.

192. Impeachment: List All Clear Violations

16 Nov

In the articles of impeachment currently being developed, it is important to list everything convincing and with clear evidence! Anything not listed will be assumed by Republicans and others to be OK. It is not just one thing that makes impeachment urgent, it is widespread criminality. Listed below are my suggestions.

Bribery: Trump delayed release of $391 million in vital support to Ukraine, in exchange for Pres. Zelensky making a public announcement of a Biden investigation.  This is a clear deal (quid pro quo) with a foreign country. The Zelensky public announcement  was actually scheduled, but cancelled when the military aid was released as a result of investigations. Delay of this aid is likely responsible for military deaths.

Obstruction of Justice. In the articles, I would include the clearest obstructions of justice listed in the Mueller Report.

Obstructions of Congress.  List all orders by Trump to ignore subpoenas and requests for documents. Include requests for information sent to Trump.

Also consider witness tampering, failure to divest his businesses, possible treason in his support of national enemies and ignoring election violations, undermining agencies like the FBI and the DOJ, and violations of the US Constitution. I repeat, only include clear and convincing items with evidence.

The bottom line is: the major reason for impeachment is not just any one incident, but it is widespread Trump-administration criminality, including many criminal staff.  Also consider that if one item is rejected by the Senate, there are others that may be accepted. The more articles presented, the greater the chance of something being approved.  Impeachment, even without conviction, is so important, because it tells the world that this president does not represent the majority of our country.

169. In the USA, an Emerging Tyranny?

8 May

(Note: this blog was written two days ago, Monday, May 6.)

There are tyrants (autocrats, despots, authoritarians) all over the world. These greedy leaders establish their dominance by a typical pathway. It is important for people to recognize the gradual progression towards tyranny, so that they can fight these dangerous steps.

Here are the usual steps in the transition from president to monarch:

Step 1. Form a “base” of poorly-educated gullible citizens that can be manipulated. The base can be violent and aggressive, to create fear and submission by others. Later, better-educated opportunists may join the base.

Step 2. Get elected, using the base, intimidation, scams, illicit coalitions and whatever else works.

Step 3. Make the appointments of all gov leaders, judges, generals/admirals based on
loyalty rather than competence.  This cadre of loyal officials helps to keep a tyrant in office.

Step 4. Change the law to benefit rich friends. An example is a reduction in pollution safeguards that help manufacturers, but put the citizens at risk.

Step 5. Fight all actions against you. This can be done by attacking and limiting the press, by re-writing history, emphasizing your successes, suppressing investigations, ignoring subpoenas, and other negative legal actions.

Step 6. Most dangerous is any attempt to increase term limits or in any way prolonging the stay in office. All of the worst despots were able to find an illicit way to win elections or abolish elections so that they remain in power indefinitely.
—————————
Trump has taken all these steps and has even proposed something relevant to Step 6: that the first two years of his office were ruined by investigation and he should be given an extra two years to compensate. Thoughts like this are vile and dangerous. In many of my previous blogs, I have described the destructive nature of his presidency.

166. No Impeachment, Wait for Election?

28 Apr

A viewpoint of Fareed Zacharia and many Democrat leaders is to forget (or delay) impeachment and wait two years for the election. Here are the arguments for not doing impeachment (or a long delay):

Impeachment will make Trump supporters very angry.

Trump’s supporters will feel that his election was unjustly nullified.

Impeachment will lose in the Senate and we will be worse off because Trump will claim a victory.

It should be noted that the Mueller Report contains numerous details and evidence that can be used for creating articles of impeachment. Actually, even what is already in the public domain is convincing.

Now, here are the arguments  FOR  impeachment, as soon as possible.

Most important, the longer Trump is in office, the more damage he will do to the USA. Letting him wreak havoc for another two years is frightening and unacceptable.

Failure to impeach means Trump’s method of using fear is working. We can’t risk making Repubs angry? Republicans are always angry with Democrats and can’t be trusted.

Trump’s loyal “base” will be disappointed because a valid (?) election was nullified? Sorry, I cannot sympathize with gullible Trump supporters, Russian scammers who rigged the election, or unpatriotic Repub Congressmen who legislate for rich donors.

What about Democrats that will be angry and disappointed because we allow a tyrant like Trump to use fear and scams to control our country.

If we impeach, it is possible the Senate will convict. Here is why (from my recent tweet). It is very likely that many Republican Senators, secretly dislike Trump. If he reaches the cliff of Senate conviction, they may feel safe to vote against him. If Trump is convicted, he can no longer harm them. If conviction fails, do we really care what Trump says about it. He will lie no matter what happens.

Remember, it is possible that Trump will win the next election. Impeachment is another way this could be prevented.

156. Mueller Ends, Others Continue

23 Mar

Briefly, here is the situation. Wise old Mueller decided to end his investigation because it is better continued by others. He is too limited and he is actually controlled by the party under investigation. Congress and the states can now continue it under better circumstances. He knows what he is doing.

Here are the details.  The investigation of the Special Counsel was limited to election interference by Russia (and maybe others). There are many other problems with the Trump government. There is obstruction of justice, emolument (gifts from foreign govs) violations, security violations by Trump and family, possible money laundering, failure to divest his financial interests, possible tax evasion, and favoritism to a foreign power because of illicit leverage.

Many of these possible illicit aspects of  the Trump administration can be investigated by states attorneys general. The United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, is one unit that will probably do the much of the investigation.  The other probes will be conducted by House of Rep. committees. An example is the House Oversight and Reform committee. All of these organizations have already been active in this matter. It may take another year or two to develop all the possible indictments and convictions.  Most vulnerable are Donald Trump Jr and Jared Kushner. Although it may not be possible to indict the President for any specific crimes, there may be enough evidence for impeachment. Congress will have to make the decision. I think there is already enough evidence for an impeachment, but there may be good arguments for waiting or not doing this at all. Trump nullification (see my blog) may be a better idea. The nullification would be accomplished primarily by acts of Congress, or maybe even by members of Trump’s administration. In various ways, Trump’s plans would not take effect.

I suspect that even after his formal work is finished,  Mueller will still play a role (maybe very covert) in transferring information and in other ways moving investigations forward. The irony here is that Trump said that Hillary would be under investigation for a long time even after her election. Instead, he is the one with never-ending probes. Also he said that the election would be rigged in Hillary’s favor, but in fact, it was rigged for him.
